WHAT IS FREEMASONRY?

Freemasonry is a fraternal organization that unites men of good character from all walks of life. It’s one of the world’s oldest and best known fraternal organizations, with a rich history dating back millenniums. Freemasons are dedicated to personal growth and community service, guided by the timeless principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP?

To join Freemasonry, a man must be over 18 years of age, of good moral character, and believe in a Supreme Being. He should be motivated by a genuine interest in personal growth, self discovery and to contribute to the fraternity’s rich history and traditions.

IS FREEMASONRY A RELIGION?

While Freemasonry values the belief in a Supreme Being, it is not a religion. It’s a place where men of various faiths can come together, united by shared principles of morality, brotherhood, and service to humanity.

MUST ALL MASONS BE OBLIGATED ON THE BIBLE?

A foundational principle of Freemasonry is a belief in a Supreme Being. Each Mason is obligated on a sacred text that is meaningful to their individual faith. This could be the Bible, Torah, Quran, Bhagavad Gita, Kebra Nagast or another holy book.

WHAT ARE THE DEGREES IN FREEMASONRY?

Freemasonry is a progressive journey, divided into three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason. Our apprenticeship is Inspired by the ancient mystery system, each degree offers valuable lessons in morality, ethics, and personal growth. By advancing through these degrees, Masons deepen their understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

WHAT IS A MASONIC LODGE?

The term “lodge” is a nod to “per-ankh” the great house of life, established by the ancient Kemetic deity Tehuti (Thoth). Today, a Masonic lodge is both a gathering of like-minded individuals and a physical space where they meet. Each lodge has its own distinct character, shaped by its members. The lodge room is a sacred space where official business, education and ceremonies take place, while other areas provide opportunities for fellowship, dining, and community service.

The governing body of Freemasonry in a specific region, such as a state or country.

WHAT’S THE ORIGIN OF FREEMASON?

According to the ancient Phre-massens’ of Kemet (Egypt) the “SUN” symbolizes the power of life and light and the Sun was an object of veneration. In their language Phre means the power of life and light, and mas means a child. Hence, being born of light (e.g. knowledge of every kind, moral, intellectual and physical). Therefore, the ancient brothers’ of our beloved fraternity called themselves Phre-massen – Children of the Sun, or Sons of Light.

WHEN AND WHERE DID FREEMASONRY ORIGINATE?

The Temple of Wa’set in Kemet (Egypt), also known as the Grand Lodge of Luxor, is one of the world’s oldest Masonic institutions. This ancient structure, dating back to the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III around 1391 BC, serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Freemasonry.

Freemasons of today draw some of their inspiration from operative stonemasons and temple builders. Those medieval builders passed down their knowledge and skills through a system of apprenticeship. They formed strong bonds of brotherhood and were committed to helping those in need, particularly widows, orphans, and other vulnerable members of their community.

WHO WAS GRAND MASTER MERERUKA?

Grand Master Mereruka was a high-ranking official during the reign of Pharaoh Teti in ancient Egypt (2345–2323 BC). He held titles such as Chief Justice, Vizier, and Scribe of Divine Books, and was instrumental in overseeing the construction of the Pyramid of Teti in Saqqara, Kemet (Egypt). The Temple of Karnak erected in honor of the god “Amun- Ra” was the most celebrated Freemasonic Learning Center Chartered by the Grand Lodge of Luxor.

Amenhotep III’s son per-a-a Ahkenaten was initiated into the ancient Mystery System at the Temple of Amun in Karnak, Thebes (Luxor) Kemet (Egypt).

HOW TO BECOME A FREEMASON?

Freemasonry is a brotherhood dedicated to personal growth and service to others. The Sons of Light (Freemasons) strive to become better men in all aspects of their lives, including as husbands, fathers, friends, leaders, and community members.
